Ever wondered where Parisians shop
for their stylish, casual but yet so elegant and sophisticated looks? Here is a
small guide on typical Parisian brands and everything you should know about
them.
1. Zadig & Voltaire
I will start with this brand as it is
one of the most popular modern Parisian brands and it bears the name of one of
my favorite writers and the main character of his famous book (Voltaire’s
‘’Zadig’’). Was created in 1995 by the grandson of the creator of famous French
brand Lacoste.
Style: Rock & Roll, bohemian
Where
to wear: to a live event in a club, artistic gatherings, galleries as well
as great for everyday look.
Must
have: Cashmere, cashmere and again cashmere. This brand is most famous for
its cashmere pullovers, t-shirts and cardigans with cool inscriptions, such as ‘’Rock
and Roll’’, ‘’Devil’’ etc.

2. Maje
A French brand created in 1999. To be
honest, this is my favorite French brand. I just love their style. Check it
out…
Style:
Casual chic. Simple, original & bright.
Name:
The name ‘’Maje’’ is an abbreviation from 4 letters important to the brand
creator Judith Milgrom. ‘’M’’ is for Milgrom, ‘’A’’ for Alain (Judith’s brother
who works with her), ‘’J’’ is for Judith and ‘’E’’ is for her sister Évelyne
Chétrite (creator of the brand Sandro, that will be mentioned below).
Where
to wear: I would absolutely wear their looks for a romantic date, to go to
the movies or a café with my love.
Cool:
I really loved their T-Shirt collection with Brigite Bardot’s picture.
Looks really really cool!!
Must
have: Maje mini skirts- I simply adore them. A coral one for winter, to
brighten up the dull weather, for spring and autumn choose a skirt with ethnic
print for a stylish solution (they go extremely well with rough black boots) and
for summer check the ‘’Victoria-Beckham’’-like dresses.
3.
Sandro
This Parisian brand was created in
2004 by Évelyne Chétrite who we mentioned above. And this is literally a sister
brand of Maje (since the creators of both brands Judith and Évelyne are
actually sisters). Sandro’s clothes are mainly for young city girls but they
also have a line for men.
Style:
Romantic, bohemian, feminine, a bit retro & elegant.
Where
to wear: Once I bought a great cocktail dress from Sandro, that is elegant,
sexy and very feminine at the same time. The best thing about the dress – I can
both wear it to a corporate event and an elegant party.
Generally Sandro for me is a brand where
you can buy clothes for any occasion, be it the fashion week or the office.
Must
have: I really love the winter coats they offer. Sooo Parisian, sooo chic
!!!
4.
The Kooples
This is a relatively new brand,
founded in 2008. The brand became very popular from the very first opening day,
due to a large publicity campaign, showing different couples and since when
they are together. The creators claim that the couples are real, ‘‘from the
street’’ and not selected by any casting.
Style
concept: Street chic, inspired by rock, vintage & British styles.
Ideology:
Clothes both for men and women, very androgynous style – same piece of
cloth can be both suitable for the guy and the girl.
Motto:
‘‘Until fashion us do depart’’ (analogy on marriage vow ‘‘until death us do
depart’’)
Where
to wear: You can find really cool suits to wear in the office to spice up
the ‘’boring’’ office look.
Must
have: Great tailored suits you can share with your boyfriend
J
5.
IKKS
Founded same year as I was born, in
1987, the brand has female, male and junior collections.
For me this is a ‘’Diesel-like’’
brand. It is a mix of sporty, minimalistic and classy. Very Parisian!
When
to wear: the style is best for weekends, to go for a shopping or a walk
with friends.
Style
personality: Think Parisian Jennifer Aniston J
Must
have: Slim Jeans in white or beige & sporty dresses.
This is my top 5 of modern Parisian brands!
